Should I buy a parts bike?

I have a 84 Gs1150ef and it seems parts are getting harder to find. I hope the keep the bike for the rest of my life and give it to my son. I don?t think there are going to be parts in 30 years. Thoughts?

    I have a "T" parts bike...bought it after I bought my riding "T".

She's sitting in our shed on center stand...my riding "T" is in our garage on center stand too.

I plan on keeping them for a long time. We have two daughters so it's not like I'm going to give them to either one of them...but maybe one each to their husbands.

my opinion shouldn't be taken as gospel or in any way that would lead you to believe otherwise (30Sep2021)

absolutely get a parts bike its a no brainer. Its not so much that any of the bikes are rare but having a spares bike saves lost riding time. It also frees you from anxiety driven purchases of an overpriced part on ebay.
I have one. I have also a spare engine and a plethora of loose parts. I have a dozen cables and other bits that break.

I have three or four working ignition systems try finding one of them when yah need it for the weekend.
