New member and 1st time GS owner

Hi all,
I just picked up a 1982 GS850GL. It was last run in 1992 so needless to say it needs a lot of work before it can hit the road. The previous owner said everything was working when he parked it so I'm optimistic that a fuel system cleanup should be enough to fire it up. Then before it hits the road I'll need to do the brakes, tires, forks, hoses, battery etc etc...


I've found this forum through a search on carb rebuilds. Looks like a lot of great resources here. I plan to make most of the 'mistakes newbies make' that you guys were kind enough to document.

As you may have noticed there's a lot of good information on this site. Try to find the Top Newbie Mistakes page it's well worth spending the time reading.

The 850 appears to be reasonably complete. That's a real good start.

A well sorted GS will gives years of pleasurable service.
