I am the new proud owner of a 78 GS1000. I know very little about these bikes, but am anxious to learn. My first bike was kit bike that my grandpa had. I started when I was about 8 years old. It had a high & low gear powered by a Briggs & ScrapIron 5 hp eng. I then moved on to a 1975 Honda XL350, but only for long enough to know that it was a little much for my size. My old man bought me a 1978 Honda XL125 that I rode until I joined the Army. Most of my riding has been off-road. This is my 1st street bike and by far it will be the biggest bike I have ever ridden (once I get a tank for it). I have plans for a custom look, but certainly not a Cafe Racer! I have been a diesel mechanic for almost 12 years now, so I am ok with a wrench, welder, and torch... But I have almost zero experience with carbs. I guess I will be learning. I am very open minded, so please don't hesitate to offer tips & advice. I am quickly learning what a pain this missing fuel tank is. That explains the price.
Thanks!
we love pictures so learn that one as soon as you can. It helps the guys with the same bike to nail yours down exactly It's pretty easy and this thread is a good one to practise in.
