    New Twin Cities Member

    Just picked up a Wes Cooley GS1000S and am squaring it away a bit. Hasn't run since 2012. It'll be squared away as a period superbike since it came with Works piggyback shocks, Earl's oil cooler, braided lines, fork brace and rearsets and I have a line on a period correct Yosh pipe for it. I'll also collect all the parts to return it to stock over time.



    Use to have a '77 GS750 with a big bore kit, smoothbores and Koni shocks in college, so it is a bit of back to my youth. Joins an '86 GSXR750 LTD, and some other race homologation specials in my garage as well as some modern riders.

          Hi. Welcome. I live in Stillwater, had an S, now a franken, ex race bike close to being finished. If you would like to go riding some day, Pm me. Track day coming up in August. Thats your garage? Heck, that's much nicer that most shops around here.

            Welcome to the site, Ray.
            Great looking S and great looking shop.
            I am guessing a lot of the LTDs ended up at the track and not in as nice condition as yours.
            The 916 is still one of the best looking bikes, ever, imho.

              Quite a few of the LTDs got collected. They were simply too expensive compared to a regular GSXR in 1986 for many people to buy them ($4400 vs. $6500) and the fact that a full dry clutch pack costs $2200 racers simply raced regular GSXRs. As I recollect it took 3 years before dealers finally sold all of them and by that time they were typically trying to sell them for about what a regular one would have cost. Mine came from a guy who bought it new in '89 rode it a bit and then put it in his collection. I got it in 2013 with less than 1800 miles (less than a tank of gas every year...).

              I agree that the 916 is one of the best looking bikes ever. Unlike my GSXR, mine is pretty much worthless since it has about 58K miles on it.

                    Yep, the one off Mpls CL. I regularly go to 1st Thursday, but never on the same bike.

                        Done for the moment. Unfortunately mechanically the bike was much rougher than it looked and took allot more work to square away. Fingers crossed that it is fully sorted as I plan to ride it over to Slimy Crud (~ 700 mi.) this weekend

                            The MotoWerks pipe is very very nice. The construction quality, fit and finish are all excellent. A bit on the loud side, but all the better to reminisce. Although they describe it sometimes as not working with the center stand, it obviously works fine with the center stand. Then again, I still wonder whether I should have bought the canister version ....

                              That MotoWerks version looks great, somewhat like one of the older Yosh pipes. I believe I just left my Triumph with one of your neighbors (Mike) for dyno work? The GS is next.
