Hello! New GS owner from Texas. Could you guys help me identify my bike?

I bought a GS1000 with no title for restoration, possibly a cafe mod.
I need help identifying the exact year and model of the bike.
It looks to have been modified some, it has a chrome headlight and strange shocks on the rear.
    The vin number is:
    GS1000-530114
I am linking pictures using imgur because for some reason I could not attach more than one image here

Thanks in advance for your help

The smooth sided tank without indents would indicate a '79 or '80.
The mags wheels are from an E model.
The VM carbs are from a '78 or '79.
With all the missing parts and added bastard parts it is tough to tell what you have.
Hopefully a v.i.n. reader will be along.

        530xxx would indicate a 1980 frame.

Do you have the engine serial number?

I think the "choke" in the steering stem was '79.

The VM carbs were '79 or older.

The slotted brake rotors were '80 or newer.

The smooth-sided tank is not '78.

Looking at the serial number list at Z1, it appears that it a '79.
The '79 frames start with GS1000-515728, so yours was the 4386th one made that year.
The '79 engines start with GS1000-121074, so yours was the 5451st one made that year.
Considering they used the same engine for the "L" model, it is understandable that they made more engines than "standard" frames.

My guess would be that it's a '79 with some upgrades.

I almost thought that, too, but the "S" numbers do not start until 521285, his is 520114.

It would appear that the engine is from 1979. The 1979 started at 121074 and went to 145968.

The 1980 frame starts at 528511 so if I am reading it correctly 530114, it would be a 1980.
