    FNG from WNY

    Hello all,

I just picked up a 81 GS850G for my self and wife to ride for the rest of the season. Next year it will be her bike when I get a new one. It is a very nice bike and we got a good deal on it. Unfortunately while doing a tune up I stripped a spark plug hole while getting a stuck plug out. Anywho, I have the repair kit coming tomorrow and hope to get it all fixed up by the weekend.

Here is the obligatory bike pick with my youngest son checking it out.

That's a really nice looking 850 specimen. Where'd you get it?

My favourite colour! Congratulations on this fine bike, you will get much pleasure from riding it!

Just a few observations from this photo: (1) The petcock should not be left in the "Pri" (Prime) position for long periods. It could cause fuel to leak past the float needles into the engine.

                      (2) It should not be necessary to have that in-line fuel filter, because the petcock has a filter and each float needle valve has a filter. In-line filters often reduce fuel flow to the carbs.

                      (3) I suggest that you replace the existing automotive fuel pipe that is on there now with the correct length of OEM fuel pipe. That pipe is too long and on top of the engine, which is not a good idea.

You will find all the information you need for your bike's maintenance on this fine site.

                      Enjoy!
