New (Old) '83 GS850G Owner 'Hello!'

Hello from Virginia! Heading next week to pick up an '83 GS850G. The bike is primarily stock at 36,000, although the engine has been re-sealed (rebuilt) down to the cases and the carbs have been rebuilt, all new seals, o-rings and parts.

I'm looking to keep stock for now, follow the information provided on this site and ensure bones are solid and I have a safe bike.

After that, maybe some minor mods.

Thanks for allowing me to join!

    Welcome to the site, Kid.
Most all of us here have horror stories to tell about the work done or not done by the previous owner. So fingers crossed your carb and engine rebuild were done properly.

That's odd, I just got off the phone to VA. trying to get a Birth certificate, for the wife who left Richlands, VA., appx. 50 yrs ago. Where are you head'in to get pick it up at? local or a road trip. I love stock & orig. but everybody's different. Hope you realize that around here, pictures are almost a must. Some say without pictures, it never happened. Congrats on the GS850, "83" new enough for electronic ign., CV carbs., & probably tubeless wheels, all a cut above the earlier models. Hopefully you will be good to go. Oh Yeah!! Welcome.

Roger that on the pics! Still reading 'newbie' how to's. And, yes, owner has all receipts, although I'm approaching the bike as a project and will pull apart and confirm everything.

Three hour trip to MD to pick up

        I'm always suspicious.

            Maryland???

It's been a while since I looked on CL to see what's out there. I'm curious.

I've attempted to upload pics several times ... I'll blame it on myself.

Per instructions, I built an album twice, in order to post pics ... I'll figure it out.

                    MAK,

                    welcome me to the Gsr.

are knowledge folks here willing to help. So will be worth your effort.

the album in your profile is not necessarily the means to post pics.

the best way is to have pics hosted on some other site such as photobucket (paid subscription) or imgur or Flickr or others., and then use thier share function to copy the BBCode and paste into the posting. Can have 10 per posting.

other way is to attach the pic direct from your computer, use the “insert image” icon (next to the film strip, looks like picture of a tree) but shows up small and viewer has to click on it. And. Can have only one per post.

Thanks Redman! I got frustrated yesterday and the flu is beating me up pretty good. I'll figure it out, and appreciate the directions. There is great information here and hopefully I can be of help to others. Funny thing, this is my first Suzuki and I'm in my 50's. Grew up on Hondas, now own a Harley Davidson Softail Slim, although recently got interested in an 80's bike ... nostalgia I guess.

Anyway, I look forward to picking up the bike.GS2.jpg

Hey jsandidge - spent many years in the Norfolk area, had to leave, it was beginning to get very congested traveling from Norfolk to York County. Still a great place though!
