That's from our friend oldGSfan, correct? That's a lot more than 'Bike of the Month.' More like bike of the decade!

Linking Tom's thread on the rebuild of this awesome machine. Was fun to follow along, Sad to see it sold. Hope the buyer is someone who appreciates it, and better yet, joins the forum and shares it's further adventures.

Are you doing a restoration project of some kind on a GS? Let everyone see what you are doing by posting the details here.

Owning a KZ1300 Turbo for a while, I can only imagine how a bike this light with a Turbo would be....And beautiful on top of that... Nice.

How fat is a KZ1300? Because our 11Es are about 565 lbs stock. Hardly a lightweight.

Thanks guys. The new owner says he's super happy with the bike, just finally arrived in Chicago area a few weeks ago. His father drag raced a Kawasaki Z1 turbo in the old days. I gave him link to the site and my thread.

Rob. the KZ1300's were over 700lb. & felt every bit of it, as they were kind'f tall.

Yikes! But they never came with turbos, did they? And they weren't as elegant as the CBX or BMW 6, were they?

I can't think of anything as elegant as a red & black "79"CBX... "81" & "82" KZ1300's were less army tank looking than the "79" & "80"'s, smaller sportier tank. No, Mr. Turbo made it & installed it. First with stock pistons & less boost, great power, & was a great streetable ride... Later with turbo pistons, more boost, but that made it really aggravating on the st., but much huger power.

Of all the Japanese 1980s factory turbos (which means I'm not including the Z1R-TC), The biggest capacity was also IMO the best, the GPz750. The Suzuki XN85 (a strange designation for a 673cc bike!), Honda CX650 and Yamaha XJ650 were all 'meh' to me. Boosting tech has come a long way from the on/off switch characteristics of the draw through type. Having a bike double its already prodigious output all of a sudden above 7K is an experience I'll never forget. I really never wringed (wrang?) its neck but got close - each time I'd take it a bit higher, learning to really grip the bike and focus on not looping it - at like 80MPH it would just loft the wheel. I never liked wheelies to be honest. So this bike was a definite, umm, experience, but best in younger and more skilled hands.

As an aside I had a 2013 150 HP Ducati Multistrada that I stupidly sold for way too little $ - for my 6'3" frame it was perfect and was the best bike I have ever owned, hands down. Expensive valve adjustment was the only down side. That bike was absolutely fantastic, speed, refinement, ergos, handling, and even looked good to me. The funny thing is that I was expecting the big GS Turbo to be a gigantic dinosaur after stepping off the Multi, but really it felt pretty good to ride around.
