Last night I was "oot 'n' aboot" and spotted a GS loaded with stuff. Sleeping bag, traveling gear.

I pulled in to the Mac's it was parked at and waited for the owner. We exchanged pleasantries and compared bikes. His was an 81 GS750L in REALLY rough shape. He bought it in Lillouette, (for the BC'ers) for $300 and rode it up to FSJ. Just got to town looking for work. Frank is his name.

Engine was grimey, dented tank, blown fork seals, busted front sig, missing a shock bolt, one missing grip. Really a rat bike.

I told him about the forum and gave him my number. Maybe I can help him get it a little more presentable.

I saw a 550 the other day and left one of my gs cards on the seat.Have not heard from him yet.I hope he is lurking about somewhere on the forum.I dont know why someone would ride a bike that would be dangerous on the road.Your just asking for trouble.

I caught a glimpse of what I believe was a YellowFranks yesterday on I-20, outside of Birmingham, heading East.

It's a real honor to be able to see such a rarity in the flesh. I truly feel blessed.

Too bad I was headed the opposite direction, or I might have been able to stop and chat with him/her for a while when they pulled over for gas.

        :-D
        Frosty (falsely accused of "Thread-Hijacking"!)

Gas, Hot Air, Pretty much the Same Thing. I'm Sure You Two would Have Plenty to Talk about!
          sigpic2002 KLR650 Ugly but fun!
2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

Thursday after work I was in my s-10 about two blocks from home when I saw a GS650GL on the sidewalk with the seat off. There was a car nearby and two guys were talking. I parked on a side street and walked over to introduce myself and mention this site. It turns out they were exchanging info because of an accident. The GSer ran into the Escort when the escort stopped. The damage? Escort's bumper totally trashed(A HOLE in it!) and the GS is messed up pretty bad. Front end is junk, gas tank dinged, various scrapes to exhaust, frame appeared bent, and the handlebars permanently point to Canada. A cop shows up and gives Mike(GS guy) a ticket. He appears to be reasonably OK,had a full face helmet ,boots and a riding jacket. Had a tear in his knee that looked like it needed a half dozen or so stitches(jeans ripped, imagine that). I offer to help if I can. We put the bike on my pick-up( I keep 1 ramp in the bed) and put it in my back yard. I then drive him to ER to get stitched up/checked out. I wrote my name and info(including my forum name,he has used this forum for info) and left. I remember telling him on the way to the ER "If you don't make arrangements to get the bike by August I'm gonna strip off some parts.hehe" I haven't heard from him since. I'm assuming he's OK,just wondering if I can use his plates to identify him. I forgot to get HIS info! Just a story I guess;I'm not gonna do anything for a couple weeks unless I here from him.:?

I Park my 650G outside of work today. I periodically look out the window to check on her. I noticed another bike next to mine. So out of boredem I wondered down to check it out. It's a white GS850G !! WOW!! With a cool ass quarter fairing to boot. I checked it out for about 15 minutes. the owner musta noticed my bike when he pulled in. Wonder if he was as excited to see another GS as I was (prob not right). I was going to leave a note on his bike,"great bike, love the fairing, see ya on thegsresources.com". But I decided not to. I'm in Philly, and I've learned not to invade others property, even if being friendly. If I catch him outside later, I'll definitely talk.

This was my first 850 up close. Can't believe how much larger the tank looks. It's definitely going to be my next step up, though I still think the 650 is the perfect city bike!!

                      EDIT --- NEXT DAY >>>>>>

So, I'm doing my usual mid-day inspection of my bike today, and a friend of mine who works in my building, asks me if it mine. I say hells yes. He tells me that the white 850 (I posted about above) is his. He got it a month ago!! I'm totally geeked!! It's an 81 GS850G. 50K on it. He thinks the "white" is a paint job. I told him about this site..obviously!! Look out Philly!!! GS's are on the prowl!!!

Last night, at Quaker Steak in Valley View, Ohio (Wednesday is bike night). A few GS's, mostly smaller 450's and 650's, but the cream of the crop was a dead mint blue GS1100E, parked next to a goldwing that was covered stem to stern in leather and gold studs. The guy even had a matching black and gold sipper cup in a holder in the fairing. The rider was covered in matching leather, too

Leatherworking project aside, the GS was awesome, that was the first 1100E I have ever seen up close, and the blacked-out engine and pipes look freaking MEAN. Good stuff....

Pull into a Tim Horton's this morning about 2:00 a.m. with the girls in the car. Park beside a 1978 or 1979 GS550E. Find the owner inside. Turns out he has had the bike for years and put about 20k on it mostly around Ashland KY an d Lexington KY. Needs some maintenance. We exchanged email addresses to see if we can get together to help with that and to ride some. He lives about an hour from me.
