Oryx well mostly be over on the White Sands area, there is a special 10 ft fence along the highway to keep them in, doesn't work all the time. Several years ago a guy on a Goldwing hit one at nite. Both died. Elk I've seen on the Sierra Blanca ski road and going up to Sunspot out of Cloudcroft. You also have mule deer as well. See them quite often, even down town Ruidoso.

I'm gonna mention to be careful on the weekends around Ruidoso and the Mescalero Reservation, get my drift. It can be hazardous to your health. Hollowman AFB lost a training officer to a 12 year old Indian kid, parents were letting him drive. That and the 100 mph bike clubs out of El Paso and Fort Bliss like to umm fly low and fast in the mountains. Most of them are Germans lol.

Now I know to be EXTRA careful on them long stretch of roads. I've been going to the Casino near Ruidoso for Comedy Night on Weds the past couple of weeks--Beautiful scenery! I'll make the trek on my "T" soon.

Speaking of my "T", I'm going to do the valve adjustment tonite--WooHoo!

Yep, lots of Germans around these parts...driving their Euro-spec cars (I'm jealous).

It's been pretty fun getting to know this town...and going to Las Cruces the past couple of weekends was nice...I'll be there next wknd for the final home game for the Aggies against Boston College. Can you believe the Aggies won their first game of the year last week against Abilene Christian?

Oryx... I had no idea. I did some research on why, and its pretty difficult to understand, from what the National Park service says on their web site. "the Oryx - This African antelope was introduced to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The oryx was brought from the Kalahari Desert in Africa to an experimental range at Red Rock New Mexico. Federal law prohibits introducing a wild animal from another country into the wild in this country so offspring were obtained at this experimental range to introduce onto the White Sands Missile Range.

Between 1969 and 1977, 93 oryx were released on White Sands Missile Range. There are now about 3000 animals in residence. Annual hunts for the oryx began in 1974 on the Missile Range. Oryx can weigh up to 450 pounds. They stand 47 inches at the shoulder. Both males and females have horns that average 34 inches long. Their brown coloring with distinctive black and white markings allows them to hide among desert shrubs."

I found the casters on my trailer to be junk. I changed them out for decent ones from the hardware store.

Yeah, I haven't seen any oryx but that will change. I just pray I don't run across one at cruising speed.

I'm glad I have a 500lb bike because the winds are picking up. I hug my tank and lean forward even more...love it!

As for the casters...I rolled the trailer on them from the parking lot to the edge of the path which leads to my Apartment. I had no issues but I did have a neighbor help me steer it. It's some serious weight for one person!

HAHAHA...I didn't know what you were speaking of...I thought you were asking about "dust devils". Had to google it....

Glad you are enjoying NM. When I was a kid, we used to go to Alamo for shopping trips..ate out (usually Taco Bell)...made a BIG day of it!

Lots to do and explore around the area. As Mrbill was saying definitely be careful around Mescalaro and Ruidoso...crazy drivers for sure.

I like new environments...and the center road of town is nothing but a food strip.

Gonna make the trek to Fort Bliss tomorrow--watching the games at B-dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings) or maybe Texas Roadhouse.

My bike is out of commision atm...I was ready to install the valve cover gasket when I discovered it's for a 550. This after doing the adjustment with my tappet set/it took me forever to keep the gap properly aligned. I am bummed!

If memory serves me this is the time of year that the fog rolls in and closes the flightline at Dover all the time. You will miss that.

I had my car searched a couple times when I was a kid. I was always ****ed off that they didn't but my stuff back after they searched. They never searched my poo though.

Hmm odd, never heard anything about that here in our news. I have been driving/working around Deming for the last 7 years, not a problem one. True Deming is a high drug traffic area and lots of folks from Mexico shop at the Deming Walmart and other stores since they are closer then Juarez and El Paso. Never heard this one.

I'm already in New Mexico Cheryl. Last time I was in Maryland was Bike Week in Ocean City, MD. I should be back in Delaware in the Spring.

That's intense! I was in El Paso this weekend but on Fort Bliss. There's a beautiful mall there called "Freedom Crossing", watched the game at B-dubs!

True Deming is a high drug traffic area and lots of folks from Mexico shop at the Deming Walmart and other stores since they are closer then Juarez and El Paso. Never heard this one.

Border Patrol check points are the norm here, been around for ages. Any major hiway leaving from the south is going to have one somewhere. Usually they are about 12-20 miles just outside town. I-25 north located about 12 miles from Cruces, I-10 west again about 12 miles. Columbus NM, north of town, Hatch NM one south of town, Hiway 54 south of Alamo, Hiway 70 west of Alamo, I-10 east of El Paso plus others that are setup in different locations at times. We also have the line of areostat balloons with look down radar for low flying aircraft (oh balloon up no fly, aaah balloon not up fly like mad). UAVs now, DEA and BP copter patrols. Very little border fences in this area, mostly vehicle barriers define the border and in other areas a wore out barb wire cattle fence does. Only things watching the wide open areas is once in a while a camera tower (when they actually work) or BP patrols.

I see foot tracks all the time around my cotton fields along the border heading north. I do mean lots of tracks. I once counted over 30 different shoe marks on one path after a rain.

At one time the BP was giving some of the local farmers BP radios to contact BP for any illegals crossing over. That didn't last too long. The cartels monitor the BP radios and had actually sent some warnings to a couple farmers to stop or else. They turned in the radios. One time out checking some cotton fields along the border and I do mean ON the border, I noticed a flash of light about mile from on a hill in Mexico. I dug out my binoculars and was looking at a guy watching me. I said nice, at least it wasn't a scope lol.
