    82 Gs450txz 3k mile report

After sitting nearly still for the last two weeks my winter project hit 3k miles for the summer so far, the only mishaps being a broken clutch cable and a cam cover that ended up missing. Did have a front tire tube get punctured but you can't fault the bike on that one. For a bike that sat for 22 years and was purchased for less than a months rent in the 16X16 cabin it was refurbished in, I couldn't be happier with the outcome. It's been to the GS Rally, three festivals in Ohio and another in NY State tommorow. After 30 years of riding v-twins, a Venture and a Goldwing this is hands down the most fun one. It can fall over in the mud and get picked up with one hand, go up trails when needed and I get to play The Fonz instead of Sonny Barger. It gets plenty of positive comments and the girls seem much less intimidated by the looks over a crotch rocket or cruiser. If you're going to have a midlife crisis and want to keep it on the cheap, consider a small twin! Cheap to buy, easy to work on and easy to push around the parking lot.IMG_20180602_162236037.jpg

It's a looker from 20 feet, up closer it shows it's age without being ratty. The PO lived on a dirt road and there was caked on dirt left on the fork tubes and side covers, this had enough of a reaction on the metal after 22 years to discolor them. On the engine cases the stuff had almost become a ceramic and was a bugger to get off, had to be scraped down. Cleaning out around the oil drain plug was a big PITA.

Congrats! Nice looking bike. I have a unmolested GS450T with 7k miles on it sitting in the shop waiting to be refurbished. Gonna be a bit longer though before I can get to it.
