Fresh Tar & Chip really grinds my gears.

I just don?t understand Why. My street got a great coat of smooth asphalt just last summer, it was perfect. I just don?t understand. I know at least one of the township supervisors rides a motorcycle. Wonder who decides this is a good idea? This sucks. A few weekends ago I found a really awesome twisty road through some farm country that went on for miles. Except, yep, fresh oil.

The local roads authority did that to the road outside my house last year. They laid a couple of miles of lovely smooth tarmac, like a GP track it was, and the best tarmaccing job I'd seen around here.
A few months later they came out and dumped an inch of gravel chips along the entire length - with the start of the Covid lockdown the amount of traffic on the road was minimal and it took ages to be tamed into a semblence of order. Normally the traffic will flatten the chips into the base and sweep the excess off to the sides, but this time around... it wasn't happening.

Good thing I just put on a fresh new knobby 705 since I now have to go off-road before I can get on-road.

The worst thing about tar and chip is the piles of gravel they invariably leave in the roadway wherever they stopped the dump truck for whatever reason. If I see that it's been done I usually try to take a different road.

Haha. Wish I could claim that. But alas ‘‘twas the previous highly skilled mechanic what made Swiss cheese of me baffles.

I rather like the "Fresh Oil" signs. Lets me know I'm truly out of the city.

THey just did the 20 mile road to my lady friends house a couple weeks ago. I have to say they did a great job. It was a cohesive mass after only a few hours, with almost no loose grave. Mucked up my wheelwells with tar, but I would sure rather have too much tar than gravel.
