Alvarez Pinela, a guy from where I work, was killed while riding to work on Saturday. Apparently he was trying to avoid debris on the roadway when he lost control. Sole provider for a large family.

Sheesh Ed, sorry to hear it. In my small group from our church out of the seven couples who attend, three have had family involved in fatal motorcycle accidents in just a couple of years. They look at my wife and I a little weird sometimes, like we're sitting on a ticking bomb or something. There are many ways to go but this one seems to grab more attention in certain circles. Do you get "the eye" from co workers now?

I sometimes think of that quote from William Wallace that "Every man dies, not every man really lives" and am thankful that I have experienced life on a bike, in the wind/ sun/ rain/ cold, soaking up creation's beauty as if it was put there just for me. Of course there's no comparison between a great Scottsman like Wallace, and a knucklehead motorcyclist like me, just thankful to live is all.

Ed, I'm sorry to hear...

As goofy as it may sound, I feel a bit of loss whenever a cyclist I did not know loses their life riding.

Was he an experienced rider, Ed? What sort of motorcycle?

I didn't know the gentleman well but he was experienced and he rode a Honda cruiser. If you read the report there was debris on the road. This must have been at about 5 AM so it was dark and visibility wasn't good.
