    New forum software??????

Given the headaches I've been dealing with since the latest vBulletin upgrade to 6.x I am checking out new forum software. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I can highly recommend XenForo over vBulletin! I administer the Suzuki Katana Australia forum and migrated from vBulletin over to XenForo a couple of years ago and it is lightyears better, both to maintain and for users as well. I still have all my migration notes around I'm pretty sure, and they provide scripts to make it easy as well.

That's good to hear about Xenforo. Since it is made by the original vBulletin developers it reminds me very much of the original VB. I'm looking forward to getting back to it. This new vBulletin isn't impressing me particularly with all the database issues we are still having with it. vBulletin is also wrapping the code so that it can't be seen. No thanks...

As for the move to Xenforo, unfortunately the migration scripts stop at VB 5.2 . I could probably hammer through it and get it moved but after all the time I've spent coding the website and dealing with forum issues in the last 4+ months I decided to farm out the migration.

If you need a hand with anything on the XenForo side I'd be happy to help if I can. Time is a bit limited these days but I know my way around XenForo reasonably well now. The Katana forum was an ancient version of VB but the migration really simple, so hopefully whoever's doing that for you does a good job too.

I've had a look at some example XenForo Forums. I believe it will be a good home for us. Thanks for all you do Frank.

Yeah, most of the forums I've been on for years have migrated to Xenforo by now. It's pretty good, really.
Of course, there was resistance to change at first, but it took no time at all to get used to it.

As both an admin and a user, XenForo is so much easier to use! It also comes as a portable web app (PWA) so it's really easy to setup like an app on mobile devices as well, and uploading photos from mobile is easy as. Looking forward to the change!
