Is the 1978 gs1000 indented "Skunk tank" tank exclusive to the E model or did they use the indented tank for any other model ?

The indented tank was used on all the '78 GS1000 models I do believe. My '78 GS1000C has one.
They are hard to find in usable condition and very expensive if you do find a good one!Ron

Indented tanks were only used on the 1978 GS1000 models. The 1979 and 1980 GS1000 models used tanks the same shape but without indentations.
If you need a tank for your chain drive GS1000 and can't find one, the 1980-1981 GS1100E and 1980-1982 GS750E tanks, although not shaped the same, will bolt right on. Better to get a non 1980 tank. The 1980 tanks used petcocks with different hole spacing and they don't have a lever to switch from prime to on to reserve.
