Fuel gauge not reading

They always seem to be off Don. I always see what tank capacity is then get exactly half the amount in a can and dump in tanks. Then tweak the float arm and recheck the gauge. if it reads low bend it toward the bottom of the tank and up if it reads high. Not much of a tweak is needed. And it may take a few tries but i like an accurate gauge reading.

This post gave me info that I needed also. My GS1100E gauge reads low and erratically. Thanks.

unplug tank from harness and jump the two harness wires and see if the guage goes up. if yes its good and the issue is the sender inside the tank. Ive had the slider that contacts the waffle board not make good contact. Both can be cleaned with carb spray and Qtips. Be super carefull to not break the fine wire the goes from the waffle board to the center of the base plate. I also have had to tweak that slider thing to get it to make good contact throughout the range of motion.

Hopefully it won't all be rusted to $hit when you get it out of the tank. They can be cleaned up sometimes but not always. You can tweak the arm for accuracy (sometimes that's also the problem, it got jammed or "sunk" instead of floating!

Yup, check resistance as the level moves through its range of travel. Best to remove the sender, or course, first.

Pages 262 to 266 on the link below for a GS850G show how to trouble shoot fuel meter and gauge with ohms readings for approximate gallons in the tank.
Need to know your model like he said ^^^ could be a little different for your bike. Check for specific manual on Bikecliff's site.

Well, Little more info please, what bike you've got, what part did you replace? where is the current coming from, how long since quit working, are you sure all connectors are good, connected correctly, and making good connections.

Fuel gauge not reading
I'll entertain some thoughts on this. My fuel gauge shows empty & no movement. I am getting voltage coming out. I actually got a replacement from eBay. After installing it today no difference. I'm thinking it's inside the tank with the lever? Your thoughts please.
I'm thinking on hooking up another arm float on the inside of the tank.Last edited by Stevyg13; 04-28-2025, 05:54 PM.Tags: None
