I'm just guessing, but judging by the tone on the other thread by the guy who chooses it..... Likely because nobody submitted one ......

It’s still there, December’s is still up on the homepage https://www.thegsresources.com/

This current thread is once again asking for submissions and suggestions. Round and round we go.
Hello everyone - if you’ve ever considered submitting a photo of your GS Suzuki to be included in our “Bike of the Month” feature, do it now ! If you can’t figured out how to accomplish that on your own, just ask how to do it on this forum….we have a few helpful folks on this forum who visit it

I looked in the BOTM queue and there is nothing in it. So someone needs to submit a bike. This is usually the reason for there not to be an updated bike on the main page. As for why Mark doesn't get back to you - he rarely looks at the forum. You would do better by shooting him an email at nemetz@new.rr.com.

Well since I don't live in this forum and you never sent me a PM, what is your suggestion?

Frank, not speaking for Trevor, but Tthere have been several suggestions going back months, From Trevor, myself, and others. Here is one such thread from August.
Another beautiful GS1000 with hardly any info on it. This is frustrating when you don't even know if the owner is a member. C'mon people, no need to be shy, give us something to link you with the GSResources. Am I asking too much?

The sizing requirements are difficult for many. I think most could muddle through emailing a photo to the editor for him to size as needed. Some folks have difficulty posting pics on the site in general, so asking them to resize photos keeps some from submitting.

Including the member’s username and a more detailed history/story on the bike/rider has been brought up.

A periodic post asking for submissions would be helpful, if it included a link to how to submit (along with an easier process for submissions.)

Thanks for your attention to this.

Rich, I'll take a look at the photo requirements and see about making bigger. Since everyone has phones that take bigger pics I should be able to get that done. It isn't like I have to worry about disk space because of too many submissions (see below).

As for person including their forum username I have no problem with that. Understand not everyone has a forum account though but I can add that to the submission page.

Now about detailed info. If you look at the the submission page it specifically asks to not keep the Comment field blank. Some people just don't want to fill that out because they don't read the submission page, they don't want to or sheer laziness. Mark prods them to give more info but a lot of times it just doesn't happen. I can't force them. In any case, I'd rather have a bike to put up there with little to no info, then no picture at all.

I'm not sure I can automate something to put up a notice just before the month ends for BOTM submissions. I'll look at that one after I'm done dealing with the headaches of this recent forum software and webhost server upgrade. One thing we are seeing is less and less submissions. That's why you don't have one now. The bottom line is that there are less and less of these bikes on the road nowadays which means less BOTM submissions and less people in the forum. In the last 6 months I have seen both drop off significantly.

                    Thanks Frank.

While I have you, I know you’re dealing with a lot with the changes. But I thought I’d ask if you could look into the issue with Signatures. I know I'm not the only one having a problem.

This remains an issue. Any resolution or guidance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
I've reduced my signature to a single word that is a link to a google doc that I created to hold the few links which I used to be able to display. And I'm pretty sure that won't work if anyone clicks on it and they're not signed into a google account themselves.

I can't add so much as my 4-letter first name without getting the error message:
"Your signature cannot be longer than 150 characters including BB code markup."

Is there any help to be had here?

Yeah sorry about that....but Mark's request was to either send him or you a pm with the suggestions....I sent it to him...only to find out that he doesn't check his pm's often.
But like Rich has said, we have posted many times on the subject.
All we are saying as why not copy what we do in the "picture of the week" game?
We have a thread titled "BOTM"....we submit a pic of our bike with a little blurb on it's history etc.
Then whoever pics botm has to do once a month is look at the thread with the submissions and pick one for botm.
Seems pretty simple to me and user friendly....obviously the way it is now is not working very well....I am pretty sure if you change it to the way we are suggesting, you will never have to ask for submissions again.

Thanks for listening to us and asking for our opinions....it's very appreciated.
Time for me to make my donation...

Thanks for the post Trevor. I appreciate the feedback.

Before I get to discussing your ideas let me give you all a bit of background of what's been going on around here. As you know I admin this site. That involves making sure things are running with both the webhost and on the website. I used to hang quite a bit in the forums but for some odd reason life for me has got real busy, especially in the last 5 years. I work as a handyman and I am very involved with my church. This ties me up quite a bit. Like, a lot . And people don't want to let me go. But lately in the goals of reaching semi-retirement, I have been declining the big handyman jobs in hopes of freeing up more of my time.

Because of my busy life I don't hang in the forums as much as I used to. I pop occasionally to make sure things are running. Because I don't hang in the forums, emails or PM's are the best way to contact me if you guys have concerns. As for Mark he never has been a big forum guy. He tends to lose his forum account every time I do a purge because of inactivity. This all means that he typically won't see PM's or posts. For him, email is the best way to get a hold of him.

The bottom line is I'm hoping to have more time this year to hang around here. In the meantime though, if you have suggestions for me then PM's or email is still the best route. For Mark the best way to get a hold of him is via email.

And just to clarify who does what here. In regards to the website I do all the site configuring, server maintenance, contribution processing and code writing. Mark manages the BOTM section in terms of processing what gets picked monthly. He handles this through a backend program I wrote so he can't make changes to the visual interface. That's why I need to know about UI changes you are discussing. Finally, Don Pepe moderates the forums so I don't end up using what little time I have getting rid of spam and settling arguments. (Thanks guys!)

So hopefully this clears up a little of what has been going on and why things are the way they are. I'm hoping this year goes a bit better for me timewise.

Now to your suggestions. It's funny that you mentioned creating a new channel for BOTM. I was just thinking about doing that after I got wind of this thread. I see it being useful for getting some additional bikes for the monthly submission and also for getting the questions that you have, answered from the submitters. So I'll add that to the forum today.

Understand that this will be just another way of getting BOTM entries submitted. I have no plans on removing the submit on the main page of the website. This new process will involve a bit more work on Mark's part. He'll have to go through the forum and pick an entry and put it in the system, so we'll see how that goes. For that forum I will be suggesting that a monthly thread be created, prior to the month you want it for, instead of doing a weekly thread, just to cut down on the amount of hunting we have to do.

As for other tweaks, I have adding the submitters forum name to the submission page as a tweak I need to do.

That's all I have for now. if you have any ideas then add them to this thread. I am subscripted to it so I'll see your posts. Thanks again!
