Oil consumption on GS450 L - exhaust valve guides?

So we've sleeved our GS450, new rings, nice and tight, LOTS of compression, dressed the valves - look like they are in good shape - BUT - still uses quite a bit of oil. The intake guides were still like new, but the exhaust valve guides had a modertant amount of play. We figured since it was the exhaust, it wouldn't be pulling oil through there. And we put new seals on. HOWEVER, our baby is still using oil.

Is it likely that the exhaust valve guides will let that much oil in? At idle when hot, especially at night with car lights on the exhaust, you can see a bit of blue smoke coming out. Do we need to pull the head again? Thanks!

The exhaust might not let oil in, but it could let exhaust in the crankcase which would push out the breather, into the airbox, through the engine to be burned. You might be getting out that way. Take the breather off and see if you get a lot of smoke at the breather while it's running.
