    cedar tree removal

    something
I have a cedar tree overlooking my house. It's approx 2 foot diameter trunk and 30-36 feet tall. I want it gone. A coworker swore people would pay me to remove it for the lumber. I'm dubious, but, intrigued. Anybody have any ideas on what to do and how to do it? (pitfalls, options?)
    Thanks in advance

Getting someone to take the tree for free because there's value in the wood, or even to pay you a bit for it would be nice if you can find someone to do it. I was lucky in the past and found someone local to take down a dozen or so blighted huge old elm trees on my property for free. He got a lot of firewood, I got rid of a huge problem. None of the trees were in danger of hitting the house. In your case, if you can't find someone you trust to do it for free, it would behoove you hire an insured, professional tree removal service.

If you're not an experienced lumberjack, do not attempt to do this yourself. There are plenty of videos of amateur chainsaw wielders having a bad day.

++++1 ^n that! Get Insured pros. also Check your insurance policy- you mighteven be liable for hurts an amateur does to himself on your property...(ie: here, you want people to be covered under Workmen's Compensation..)They may know someone to buy the logs or you may find someone to buy the downed logs... So much of a tree is branches and you might save $ dealing with them yourself...

Just say'in, Grant Cedar Mill, few mi. up the rd. is at $120 pr. ton today. 30" X 36', guessing a couple of tons = roughly $240. That to take down, clean up & haul off your tree?... Good luck, hope it happens.

Sister had a full growth massive black walnut. People actually offered thousands to harvest it.

Well, have a guy coming in two weeks to take it down. $1000. There was one sawmill locally I contacted and never heard back from. It's all good.

I own a chainsaw, (two actually), but, I'm way too far gone to take on this job. Maybe 20 years ago, maybe not. heheh
