It depends ..... You going to use it to shoot up a school or hunting ducks ?

I have heard it is the choice of many for home defense.

Probably neither, very possibly would never shoot it, I already have a 12ga. SXS, 16ga.SXS, 20ga. SXS, " ______ " and a 410ga.SXS, just wanting to fill in the missing 28ga. SXS gap with something from a reasonable mfg. and more than 30yrs. old... Heart got broke last wk. Found one advertised, just what I wanted a Ithica, 28ga., SXS, ser. # says made in 1911, good condition, chambers already bored from 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" to accept modern ammo, priced where I could do it... Last minute found the ad was wrong, it was a 20ga. not a 28.... Thinking I should be kind'f not wasting time, would like to have the complete set for my estate sale.... I know it's a long shot here, but you never know.

Own and/or have shot most gauges and configurations either hunting, tactical courses, or clay pigeons. Never came across a 28. Never felt the need to own one. But I guess if it’s the only hole in your collection, I could see going for it.

Yep Bob, but thanks anyway for the idea.. I've been checking most all of those online places. Guns.com has an L.C. Smith 28 SXS, but $6,500.00 is a little out of my category. Also thanks to all for nothing neg., so far, about the subject being put here..

Pretty rare these days, I would watch auctions and estate sales, might be your best bet to snag one.

Thanks, I've been watching those too. Finding a few older 28 O/U and new 28 O/U and SXS's are everywhere, Older 28 SXS's not so much... There are a few to be found but usually $6,000 and way up for one with a fancy foreign name. Wanting something by a normal mfg. Ithica, Stevens, Winchester, Remington, Iver Johnson, Springfield, Fox., even a Ted Williams, Sears, or J.C. Higgans would be fine... It's out there, I'll just got to find it.

Wow, I'd not been aware that the prices of peashooters were so high in some cases, even over here.

Have seen the newer Charles Daly, Weatherby, Mossberg SXS's. When I see "NEW" Charles Daly's and Weatherby's priced like a CZ, TriStar, Stoefer, and Dickenson I get skeptical. A little checking shows they're all imported from a Turkish gun mfg. with whatever name you want put on them. Just threw them all in the same sack and laid it aside. Possibly better than the old guns, but they just ain't what I'm looking for.... Thanks for all ya'lls input.

Good luck, rphillips. Methinks you are setting yourself up not to get a 28 ga, BTW, It's Ithaca, and it's Stoeger, and you can get a Stoeger for less than $700 in 28 ga.. Yes, they are made in Turkey, but the barrels are made by Beretta.
