Many forget that Pete Rose popularized the head-first slide in baseball. It's so common now. When I was a kid playing little-league, that's what we called it - the Pete Rose slide. Our coaches didn't like it, but we did it anyway. I met him at the Vet when I was 7 or 8 when he played for the Phillies, signed a pin for me. Still have it somewhere.Rich

He mattered, and suggesting otherwise is the kind of armchair BS that anyone hoisting a beer with an opinion can do. It doesn't take away from his importance to the sport."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

No doubt not in the hall just for punishment... My opinion he should be put in the Hall but with big captions explaining both the pos. and neg. parts of his career. Hard to imagine a Baseball Hall of Fame and a player of that caliber not there.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. The posted consequence of betting in baseball is "permanent" ban. Not "lifetime" ban. It will be interesting to see if MLB makes an exception, but I think it will take some time, if ever.Ed

If Pete had a sliver of a chance to get in it should've happened while he was still alive.
If it happens now it'll just make his fans happy, as more and more time goes by nobody will be to concerned.
A lot of thirty year Olds dint know many prominent people from 15 years ago....
Wolfgang van halen came to the defense of a 26 year old female singer when see said she didnt know who Eddie van halen was.
And she's popular in the music buzz.
Time marches on.

It's important to consider the times when Rose's ban took place. The Mafia had recently been exposed for paying off a number of college athletes to "shave points" in basketball games and even in some cases outright make "mistakes" to lose games.
It's rather doubtful that Rose bet against his own team but you never know, with the right amount of pressure from the right people anything is possible.1980 Yamaha XS1100G (Current bike)
