        Never encountered lutefisk but it has the same base fish as does gefilte fish.
        I have encountered gefilte fish multiple times, but never tried it as the smell was so bad.
        Perhaps they have that in common.

          I've always wondered why America chose to put it's name on plastic cheese when there are so many fine cheeses made in America . I once made a pilgrimage to visit " Rogue River Creamery " in southern Oregon where the Blue Cheese is one of the finest in the world and you can get lost in the various varieties of Blue Cheese they offer ...... { not to mention everything else but blue cheese was a world prize winner }

            I'll never forget it, Midland S.D. (Pop 125) Was on a four man survey crew and we saw a flyer for a Lutefisk dinner. We all got drunk and showed up at it due to there being absolutely nothing else to do. All in all it was a fun time since I did pretty well keeping my biker "class" in check.

            Since then I've thought it over and the best way to have a similar culinary experience would be to open up a can of tuna and let it sit outside for a few days of hot weather. Gotta watch for coons and skunks though.
