Any Television Experts Out There ?

I'll admit I am a bit technology challenged. Recently I telephoned Roger to replace the remote control for my Motorola PVR ..... Rogers informed that they had no replacement and that a new PVR was needed as shortly mine would cease to work ...... So after discussion and being informed it wouldn't cost me anything but the service call I told them to come on over and do it ..... They did and I am currently on a learning curve with the new equipment ..... One thing I didn't expect was the extremely dramatic improvement in picture quality. As well as one Hell of a lot of channels I didn't get before .....

But here is my question ..... On a few of the channels I see the following message .... " Upgrade to 4k UHD display ? What the heck is that ? I haven't clicked yes yet and just changed back to another channel ....... Should I click yes ? The TV is a Sony 55 inch XBR 800E model .... I also haven't hooked up any of the internet stuff either but that is another question .....

Have you searched "4k UHD" on the web to see what it means.

I remember years ago when I bought a new T.V., Had all kinds of HD and other options.

I'd try them, some made the picture on screen different sizes , but I didnt have the HD signal coming in at the time so I didnt get the full benifits.

Im comfortable enough to play around with settings, ive had friends do that and have to call over a friend just to get back to even be able to watch the dang thing.

4K UHD is ultra high definition. If your TV is 4K compatible that setting will give you the best picture quality. If the TV is not 4K compatible you won't see a difference.

I Googled my TV and this is the answer I got .......

" Upgrading to a 4K UHD display on a Sony XBR-800E TV means the TV will now be able to display images with a resolution of approximately 3840 x 2160 pixels, which is roughly four times the resolution of a 1080p display. This results in a sharper, more detailed image with enhanced clarity and realism. The XBR-800E already supports 4K resolution, so the upgrade primarily refers to enabling and optimizing the TV for viewing 4K content."

As long as I can't screw anything up I should be okay ?

No, don't do it! If you DO try it and it still works don't look at it!

                    3. Adjust horizontal hold

                    4. Sit back and enjoy one of 3 local or 3 network channels.

You forgot the alum. foil on the "Rabbit Ears" and having to get up and walk across the room every time you wanted to change the channel or adj. the volume. But thinking back, weren't we all perfectly content with what we had... Now no turning back since they got us addicted to 4,000 channels and no TV's without remote.

Many movies and shows that eventually were favorites started out as having no alternatives - Gary Cooper in The Westerner with Walter Brennan as Judge Roy Bean, Clark Gable in Band of Angels with Sidney Portier (as his son).

Up near the Canadian border we got shows I never remember seeing in the Big Apple - Second City Television and Sha Na Na. The later it got, the fewer choices there were (TV was not on 24 hours).

We now return to our previously scheduled show. Hello Jack!
