Met a few other riders this morning for a loosely planned ride into Southern Illinois and back into West Kentucky. We departed Murray to Mayfield KY to meet another rider and then headed toward the River. As we approached Wicliffe KY my front end got bad squirrely. Pulled over and sure enough the front was flat. Limped on to a gas station where after paying $3 for air it was apparent the tire was not taking the air. It seems the tube has failed, this is on my KLR 650 which runs tubed tires. So one of the other riders called a guy to come from Possum Trot KY with a truck and trailer to haul me home. the whole group insisted on waiting with me 2 hours for the guy to get there. Once I was loaded they continued the ride. When we got to the house I tried to pay the guy to at least cover his fuel but he refused, told me to pay it forward when I can. As "That Guy" stories go, not too bad, no bikes were damaged and no one got hurt. My ride ended 56 miles into a 150 plus mile ride but it could have been worse. New tube has been ordered.......

Hate it for ya' Marv, glad it wasn't any worse. Flats are very rare these days, but still wondering why any modern bike would still have tubes. Thinking the chances of making it home with a $3 plug or a $5 can of sealer in a tubeless is so far ahead of patching or replacing a tube, out on the rd., would be hard to measure. Also you'll never pinch or gouge a tube with a tire iron if using tubeless... For me just don't make sense. By 1989, my '82 z28's rims were quite beat up. One of the rears wouldn't hold air, and I thought I was looking at hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for replacements. The tire shop guy was, I thought, incredibly nonchalant about it.
"We'll throw a tube in it," he said. $15 - done deal! I'll always have a warm spot in my heart for tubes.

Never had a flat while out on a ride, went out to go for a ride and bike had a flat.
But I have had rear wheel bearing start screeching, only friend I could get ahold of ( pre cell phone ) had a van .
I was just on a solo afternoon ride.
Another time in a group of about a dozen, Gs quit charging while out on a ride, left it at a nice strangers house on the highway, rode on the back of friends bike 65 miles to get a truck.
Bought aftermarket stator and it was junk, bought a genuine Suzuki one worked great.Comment

Geez......that big 'ole box on the back and no air compressor????
You should be able to carry a compressor, tools, tire irons and a tube with all that room! I bet you could have changed the tube faster than waiting for a rescue!Ron
