    Happy Gilmore 2

Just watched, found it very depressing

Not because of the storyline or all the nods to past actors and movies attempts in my mind? to tug at the nostalgic nerve .

But because it made me realize more than anything really has ,that being the last 30 years have flown by in a blink of an eye.

And I find that emotion kind of strange, because of a silly movie, but I didn't pay total attention to it and there wasn't anything in the movie that I would think would trigger that emotion.ha ha !

I got over it, only lasted ten fifteen minutes, now just laughing about and still slightly puzzled by it.

30 years, feel like I wasted a lot of time ?

I have tried, and tried, and tried to find something funny about Sandler, but failed miserably. Prob too uptight. He just seems too obvious and cheesy, and epically unfunny to me. Sorry I'm a downer.

I agree. When he appears with a guitar in hand, or in his 'Opera Man' guise, I change channels fast. VERY fast. The exception is his 'Lunch Ladyland' number, and you can figure out why.

The only movies of his I can stomach are the 'Grown Ups' pair, because of the huge ensemble cast.

Been a fan of Sandler since his SNL days and have enjoyed a majority of the movies he has appeared in, including his more recent sojourn into drama.

I am someone who feels that emotion all too frequently. Like seriously, I've got issues. But I can't say this movie triggered it in me. I can see how though.

A lot of the callbacks to the original movie all but emphasized the passage of time. I may have even felt a twinge when old man Shooter painstakingly dusted off his now arthritic finger guns. But despite the relentless callbacks, I thought it was different enough to keep me from feeling like I was just watching the original except covered in mildew and rust. It may be because it was so explicitly a vehicle for callbacks and nostalgia that it felt so different.

But I loved it. In between the laughs and "hey, that guy!"s, I was just thinking how jealous I am of Sandler. This dude is unapologetically having the time of his life, and I really felt it coming through. I think Hollywood takes itself way too seriously, even in comedies, and this felt like a refreshing reminder that it can be ok to just make a fun movie.

            Agreed 100%

My wife likes him, so ,like you, I tried and tried.
            .

His Zoltan movie was the only one that I found acceptable

His humour seems aimed at ten to twelve-year-old minds.

Adam Sandler in my mind is a special person. He does not act like a fake Hollywood star...he dresses how he wants, he is fiercely loyal to his friends (even Rob Schneider the maga man)....he is by all accounts a great husband and father to his two girls.
He knows his assignment....make people laugh. And he does it well all while being a good human. What's not to like?

I think he's a good guy, for sure. I didn't mean to be Debbie Downer, my dad once said 'if you don't have something nice to say, shut your trap' which I didn't obviously learn from!

I have to correct myself because I did like his 'roast' at the Mark Twain prize show for Conan - so there may be hope for me yet....

Have you watched The Wedding Singer? I'm no Sandler apologist, but the movie is good.

Never been a fan of SNL but have enjoyed a few of the skits, some of the will Ferrell skits I got a chuckle out of.

And some of the highlights of really old guest appearances .

Adam Sandler has to be one of the more successful post SNL actors, if not the most ?

I think he's up there. Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, etc., are too.

I didn't know, though, that SNL fired Sandler.

Don't forget Steve Martin, John Belushi, Jane Curtin, Dan Aykroyd. Sandler most likely has the biggest box office, though.
