I played a lot of "travel" ball growing up and I struggle to be interested in the regular season...but like a couple of guys mentioned, MLB has brought in great changes to speed up the game....I didn't even know about the runner being put at second until I saw it happen this year with Detroit and Seattle.Originally posted by salty_monk View PostMy local team… lots of excitement here in LA I’m sure but I struggle to be interested in Baseball. Too slow for me!No signature :(

But apparently that was just for the regular season. I watched some extra inning games in the playoffs and it didn't happen.Originally posted by trevor View Post

Guess I haven’t watched much baseball lately. I didn’t know about it either.
The ghost-runner rule places a runner on second base at the start of extra innings, aiming to shorten game duration and change strategic approaches for teams.
After trying it out for three seasons, MLB made the rule permanent for regular-season games.Links

At least at cricket you can wander around, get a decent beer, pie or pasty or something without missing anything as it’s SO slow…
Baseball is a different animal!

That rule does not apply in the Playoffs...which is a good thing...make them earn it.
I watched baseball as a 10yr old in the nosebleed sections of Dodgers stadium--not understanding the game completely but amazed at the venue.
My dad got me a pennant kit with mini flags for all teams in the NL; I taped them on my bedroom wall in no particular order.
I didn't play Pop Warner baseball in elementary or during my Jr High/High School days...just worked out that way.
During my military career, I did play Squadron Softball which taught me field position basics and of course, batter up placement sequencing; I'll explain.
Our best hitter usually batted 4th in the line-up as "Clean Up" while everyone else fell into their own placement.
Cheering each batter to get a hit and get on base was the goal--it meant our chance to bat within an inning was a high probability.
We exchange from Offense to Defense and try to get 3 outs as quick was possible...both teams have this goal in mind.
To equate this thinking with MLB gives me higher expectations for the Dodgers.
Obviously, softball is bigger than baseball and delivery is night and day! lol
I can sit through a game whether at home or in a stadium knowing the expectation and cheering for my team.GS750TZ V&H/4-1, Progressive Shocks, Rebuilt MC/braided line, Tarozzi Stabilizer[Seq#2312]

i would like to go to one of those…Originally posted by Rich82GS750TZ View PostLove baseball. Went to may games at Fenway when I lived in Boston. Been to Camden Yards in Baltimore, old and new. PNC Park in Pittsburgh, the VET, in Philly, and many minor league games in Pawtucket, Harrisburg, and State College. Loved playing as a kid/teen. And playing softball for many years as an adult.
Sort of related: Anyone ever been to a Savannah Bananas game? My wife and I really want to go to a game. Looks like so much fun. If you don't know what Banana Ball is. Watch some videos.

Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about replacing either of those guys right now....yes Bo is an awesome hitter....but like you say he's cold...I don't like messing with the team chemistry that has them where they are....Lukes is making the league minimum btw at just over $800,000....just one of the many great underdog stories on the Jay's team.Originally posted by bccap View PostIt will be interesting to see whether the Jays reintroduce Bo Bichette in game one. He's ready but cold coming off an injury. If they put him in either Lukes or Barger will have to be pulled . Both have been clutch hitters in the playoffs .....No signature :(

I thought "auto subscribing" was a given when replying to a thread?Originally posted by oldGSfan View PostSeems that I get subscribed to every thread I view now, and can't unsubscribe. Weird goings on. Trying to post here and see if I can subsequently ignore myself. Go Doyers!
There's a button at the top right of the thread title that you have to click to subscribe.
Maybe it's in the settings to change that option but I never changed it to begin with...so, I'll continue clicking the button.
Yeah, I see Toronto has named their starting pitcher.
The Blue Jays had less time planning their rotation than the Dodgers...so they are BOTH ready for the series to begin.
I saw an article on ESPN about Ohtani talking about possibly playing for Toronto {not going to debate the reason} but in the end, he chose the Dodgers.
I'm expecting a great series.
These teams got to the Grand Finale of Professional Baseball.
If you can sit through 9 innings and watch the pitcher/hitter dynamics...and see how defense's perform under the pressure of making a play, then you can really enjoy the game.

Yes, it's always been that way, but it's happening now on threads to which I haven't replied. It started recently, and I didn't change my settings. I am subscribed to three threads now that I've never commented on. Nothing I do changes it, I don't show up as subscribed (top right), then I toggle on, off. Still getting notifications. Mabye there's a ghost 'me' in the machine. Anyway, the Dodgers seem unstoppable but it's baseball. More bunts is all I ask.Originally posted by GSXR7ED View Post
