    The subject is "old hat" for me since I was involved in earth science back in the 80's. As to comparisons, in this case using Einstein as a reference point would be akin to holding Mel Brooks as an equivalent to Moses, at least when it comes to knowledge anyway.

      This article continues a line of thought that appealed to me.
      Hopefully, it will not be considered "old hat: to everyone. .. .

      Years ago, an audacious Fields medalist outlined a sweeping program that, he claimed, could be used to resolve a major problem in algebraic geometry. Other mathematicians had their doubts. Now he says he has a proof.
