The best of Christmas presents

I hope everyone has had a good Christmas.

This evening I got a truly wonderful Christmas present in the form of a phone call.

A very good friend of mine has the most demanding and stressful life I can imagine anyone having in Canada.

Younus Khan called tonight to tell me he has just received final confirmations of his year-long negotiations and the result is he has created an endowment fund with Scarborough Health Network and University of Toronto. The fund will be named for him and his late wife Mumtaz

Awards from the fund will be for Scarborough-only students wanting to pursue medical degrees..
Part of the agreement is that the amount of every award will be matched, literally doubling the benefit to students.
He, or a member of his family, will be a part of the student selection team.


Essential student qualifications will be that applicants MUST be residents of Scarborough, Ontario and also MUST have been residents in person for a minimum of ten years.and when accepting the award every student MUST commit to practicing in Scarborough after graduation..

I don't think I have ever said the word "wow" so often in a single conversation.

There will be an official news release via major newspapers and media coming in the next couple of days.

Can't top that but as I get older I have found that the things I most want for Christmas can't be bought.
