    About those feathers....

I have to take care of a tiny sparrow that died on my back deck and is lying beside the large bin where I keep the seeds that I feed them with all winter.
I just saw it there as I was dumping a 50 pound bag of sunflower seeds into the bin.

Birds of this size, as well as bigger, need a constant supply of food to keep them alive and I am happy to oblige. A few, like the nuthatches, become very friendly and they visit us year-round. At least one pair actually sit with us when we dine outside in summer.

Where I used to live I had blue jays come to get peanuts almost every day, but it was a rare and wonderful moment to get a visit from cardinals..
Where I am today cardinals are the first to arrive at the feeder every morning and the last visitors in the evening . Blue jays here are unusual, coming only in summer and even then I have to go outside and whistle to attract them.

Ah yes.....the topic.........how do they all stay warm?
