I wasn't impressed either . Mind you my tastes run to classical, flamenco, and jazz. ....And I found the visual to be downright stupid . I kept trying to imagine when I saw Segovia or Montoya play if I could have enjoyed their shows had either walked on stage dressed like a cow ..... I don't think I could have separated the music from the visual ..... Kudos to Earl for sitting through it twice . I lasted long enough to form an opinion on the music and then got that image off as fast as possible .... The theme riff was interesting but I found the improvisation around it lacking. I didn't think he strayed much from the original theme ..... At least not enough to keep my attention .....But as it isn't my style of music I wouldn't place much if any weight on my critique ..... I don't like rap or hip hop either but I don't deny their validity as music .....

However this " hate " comment disturbs me..... Hate is an emotional response...... I didn't like it. Rob didn't like it. And Earle didn't like it ..... I don't have any emotional feelings about the music. I listened to it long enough to form an opinion and then stopped ...... And I didn't get the impression that Rob or Earle did either .....

I saw Joe Pass in concert once. I don't remember exactly what he was wearing, but I do remember that he was NOT dressed as a cow. I'd stake my life on it.

I guess he just wasn't artistic enough to have realized what a cow outfit would have brought to the experience.

P.S. It's really a shame that it was at a rather small club, as there was no room for fireworks.

Earl made his point once then popped back in later to do it again. This just might come as a surprise to many in the group but it's quite possible to just drop the subject when something is disagreeable to you!

Back to music, there was a time when this piece of piano music was considered groundbreaking! It would be difficult to find someone who doesn't find it sounding familiar.

Somehow I can't see Satie performing his tone-poems in a cow suit, with a funny hat, and a two foot schnoz ......

One thing I did find interesting .... Play the video again and then pause it as soon as you see a close up of the guitar fret board ..... It isn't a normal guitar fret arrangement . It's micro-tonal .... A normal guitar fret board is divided up into semitones . This one is divided up into quarter-tones . { the frets are closer together } ....That means you can add tones in between the notes on a conventional fret board .....

Great tech. Years ago learned why eastern music sounds often jarring and hard to get used to.
audible frequency range is divided into smaller bands. Our ears and minds take time to adjust.
I assume that the divisions on this fret board adhere to western conventions. Fretless instruments have no easy guideposts but refined eared and very skilled players can do anything within the tuned range.
my hearings crap but was the violinist in the video taking such liberties?
