Bell Labs building if anyone is interested. The sheer scale of the space from the inside common area is quite impressive.

In a rare occurrence this is a current pic. Last night around midnight.

No idea, but yes, it'd be fun speeding around there.
Unfortunately its fairly busy by day and the grounds are loaded with Deer by night.

Very nice picture to start the theme, dorkburger

I missed an opportunity to go to an open house at Spaceport America today. That would have been my entry.

I'll find something, it'll have to be an evening ride this week.

Not historic, not any infamy (other than my traffic court appearance for u-turn ticket), but local county courthouse.

I think this fits the bill. It's a replica of the original gate house, though.

                              dorkburger gets it.

Roger Burque gets points for the place that is most immeadiatly recognized as significant.

                                Vote for Glen Dorkburger.
I kinda though that might have been the place were transistors were originally developed. And I like the pose and the lights and that it appears that he went and posed bike somewhat for the photo.

Maybe I recognised the place because I had an electronics professor in early 1970s that told about his early carreer at RCA labs in mid-late 1940s (yes, he was that old, and I am now that old).
I may not recall the details specifically but he talked about where he worked on identifying the electrical characteristis of simiconductors, and the effects of placing one up against another (we now call diode). He developed the parameters to identify the electrical characeristic, and determined how to produce those characteristics (amount of doping the simiconductor materail). ANd he said his report proposed having a third layer of simiconductor and he predicted the characteristics.
ANd he told of how the labs cooperated between RCA and Bell Labs, and then things were reorganised, and where his file cabnet went to some other place. I do recall sitting in the lecture, wondering why is he telling us all this.
ANd then he said that a couple years later, guys from that other place got credit for inventing/develpoing the transistor (three layers of simiconductor).
To this day, the parameters to describe the characteristics of diodes and transistor are what he developed.

ANyway.... Anyway, that is probably why I recognise the siginificance of Bell Lab in New Jersey.
                                And I was somewhat right.

                                >>Later Note; but the Bell Lab that is credited with transister development is in Murray Hill NJ, not this location.
