Photo from about 4 years ago of Brock's Monument in Queenston, On.
First built in 1853-56 as an homage to Sir Isaac Brock. A Genenral in the War of 1812
You can actually climb to the top of it on the inside, good cardio and no claustrophobia required.
Visit Brock's Monument in historic Queenston Heights. Climb the monument, retrace the Battle of Queenston Heights on a guided tour and learn about the life of Major General Sir Isaac Brock!

      .
I like your pic better than the one on their website.

So, you have submitted pics of the country's largest monument and the country's smallest church. You are extreme.

Back in the game! I've used this picture before for a different theme, but it works so well for this one.

Since then, I've cleaned up a lot of the scratches from the negative, (although it is a little soft now), and reprocessed it. Looks a little better, now.

So a monument, you say? I guess this works. Sturgis 50th, 1990, on my 1978 Sportster...(and yes, I rode it there from Northern Illinois)

Taken on film, with a Canon AE-1. I scanned the original negative to get this.

I like Cowboy's idea of something naturally monumental.

Here's one of the reasons I love New Mexico so much. Evidence of volcanic activity is all over the place. This is a nearly eight thousand foot high (above sea level) basalt plug which is all that's left when the rest of the volcano eroded away.

The elevation here is already pretty high but this volcanic plug is visible for hundreds of miles.

Well thanks, but that's Scott's idea (cowboy). Of course if you vote for him but you really mean my WV Triumph Arch, I'll take it.

Wow, thanks for setting me straight Kerry. Scott already pointed out a blunder I made in another post. I'll bet he's glad someone else took this one. Lol

Wow! I really like the pictures I'm seeing looks like it's gonna be a hard vote this time.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm already doing much better but still out of commission when it comes to riding. I have a follow up with my PCP tomorrow, it should be pretty much a normal visit. I consider myself extremely blessed, I have a very good employer who has taken very good care of me throughout this whole mess, in two months I'll have my 30th anniversary working here and god willing there will be many more ahead.

I can't remember if this was considered a monument, BUT, it's what I have. This is in Dwight, Illinois, off route 66. As some here can tell this is a pretty old picture, as The Jet hasn't looked like that in almost 8 years...

                    The Windmill in Dwight, IL

The Windmill was built in 1896 as part of the estate of John R. Oughton, one of the founders of the Kelley Institute. Originally called the pumping tower, it was built by the US Wind, Engine & Pump Company of Batavia, Illinois. The well is 840’ deep and contains an 88-barrel cypress tank at the top of the structure. The windmill pumped water for the entire estate.
The Windmill has stood above the skyline of Dwight for over 110 years. It was placed on the “National Register of Historic Places” on September 23, 1980.

I would think that, yes, not all memorials will be monuments, but many memorials could be monuments.
Will be left to the voting, now, I guess.

Aside from each persons definition of "monumental"; Each person voting will have to decide between voting for the best monument and/or the best picture of a monument(al).

I too have thought of some other ideas of "Monumental".
I have some pictures of monumental events that include a bike, like sons first ride, but the "monumental" part of it is not self evident in the photo.

likely not going to happen for me. Sunday I went for a ride out a dirt road looking for something called the Joyce Kilmer Monument in Bald Eagle State Forest in Central PA. I don't know what it is or even what it looks like. Hit a gate 2.5 miles from the destination. I'll hike there someday but won't get a pic of my bike there. Open House at school for my younger son tonight so.... Can I still vote?
