Went to take Pearl, our 5 pound Chihuaha out last night and this was between us and the back door to the garage. I couldn't see it's head at the time but the coloration is close enough to a Copperhead that I wasn't taking any chances.

Just got back from a few days away in the mountains with my wife in the RV. Got away from the boredom of Covid in did some great hikes and general touring around in my slightly extended backyard. Best thing out here if you know where to go is no people. Yay, they're highly overrated these days. LOL.

Those white mountians in the background must be about 10,000ft. A buddy and I were out quading last weekend up to 7100 and no sign of white stuff just flowers, oh and skitters!!

Sure looks like this Milkweed tussok moth.

Last week we visited royalty as we met the magical monarch and its larval host the milkweed plant. This week, Bug of the Week was inundated with questions about another caterpillar munching on milkweed: the milkweed tussock moth, also known as the milkweed tiger moth. Milkweed gets its name from

Thanks guys for the kudos. Steve, yes the water is cold. This photo was taken at the exact same spot looking the other way. The glacier the water came off is about 4 miles away. The shot was taken with a wide angle (24mm) so the mountain is a lot closer than it looks. Fred, this was up in Rogers Pass area (Illecillewaet Glacier) and peaks there are around 8,000 feet but they get a huge amount snow up there. I was lucky enough to ski up that drainage one winter about 25 years ago before they closed the lodge by the highway at the summit of the pass.

With this Covid we're getting to spend a lot more time hanging out in the mountains. My wife and I took the TuRD (Tacoma TRD) into the hills today to check out one of our favourite huckleberry areas and struck gold. Berries are early and plentiful this year so we managed to snag 10lbs today and going back tomorrow. Yay!!!
