Congratulations Glen. Curious why you say it’s such a rare thing when I would think most shops would want to keep their experienced people around longer?

Not really sure. In the commercial (non residental) world, shops come and go. A loss of a major service customer or two can completely change the landscape of a company, etc. For guys working directly for the manufacturers, corporate policy can affect the service department (and attitude). There are times when I've heard of shop mismanagement, and seeing the writing on the walls, techs will start to jump ship. We can a restless and sometimes cranky lot.

Metalfab, I'm out of the loop regarding residential equipment, pricing, etc.
My system at home circa 1986, and I have no intention on replacing it until catastrophic failure.

I hear you, I have a system installed when the house was built in 94. On the condensing unit I lost a cap on the compressor then a contactor, I cleaned the contactor because it wouldn't conduct when it closed. It burned the points again over 10 months, so I ordered a new contactor, the cap had bulged again so I replaced it, Then I added a super boost to the comp. I think the comp might be about to go, it's drawing about 15% more amps than specs. I was thinking about replacing the system. The air handler has had its problems too, burned up spade connectors, heat strip short, and sequencer failure over the last few years. I've been looking for direction on what system is smart to replace it with. I am probably going to install it myself, I was researching the brands. I can appreciate the commercial HVAC is a different world than residential systems. Thanks for the reply.

Back to not hijacking the thread, LOL Now days keeping a job for decades is quite an accomplishment. Props to you long timers.

I'm wondering if you are having low voltage issues. Low voltage will cause a higher amp draw and can overheat / damage electrical connections.
On the condenser side, a restriction in the system at metering device or liquid line filter (if installed), or a dirty coil can cause a high pressure situation, which will also increase amp draw. Some condensers have two coils sandwiched together and junk tends to get packed between the coils over years.

There are a surprising number of Amazon DC's in Jersey. Up here they typically gobble up the ever shrinking open space instead of building on old sites.

My recent walks around town are taken without expectation. Generally a throw sh1t at the wall and see if it sticks.
This one was interesting to me in that it has an absolute minimum of visual information, yet has a semblance of a cohesive image.

And I found a fiver on the sidewalk on my way home. Cha ching
