    99 Dodge Ram headlight query.

What's going on? My Dodge Ram headlights have me confused. Some places call for a 9004 bulb & other places call for a 9007 bulb. These 2 bulbs look almost identical, so I figured they were interchangeable, ordered the 9007's & as I was installing I found the orig.'s were 9004. No problem, plugged the 9007 in anyway. Light works fine, HI & LO but in dark, doesn't light up the rd. like it should. I got to investigating I've found the filament is oriented different, 9004 has transverse filament & 9007 has axial (parallel) filament, figure that's why light isn't shining correctly. Also found these bulbs are wired different though the sockets (Plugs) are the same. The 9007 has the ground- on the center pin, HI+ on left & LO+ on right, but the 9004 has the LO+ on the center pin & HI+ on left & ground- on right. How can this 9007 bulb be working correctly when the plug from the harness has the ground- on the right & LO+ in the center, but the bulb is designed ground- in the center & LO+ right??? It seems the 9007, when on HI, would have to be getting ground- through the LO+ (center) power wire. Am gonna change it back, just not tonight in the dark.
