    Very nice work Chuck, was that inlay paint freehand? or do you have a method to get it so perfect?

      tatu...I used blue tape and went around the circle and around the perimeter of the Yamaha areas to mask as much as I could. Then I just spray painted with VHT high temp gloss black..let sit for about 10 minutes and remove the tap. Wrapped a tshirt rag real tight over the finger tip and dip it in laquer thinner and wiped the residual stuff on top off..being careful not to get thinner down into the recessed spots. Then in between the lettering I use Qtips.

        Frame has been cleaned and repainted..see the tips and tricks section for pics. Also made some extra cash and have been able to afford the new intake valves, the valve adjuster, and the engine paint. she should be a runner again in a few more weeks.

          Are NOS parts easier to find for Japanese steam engines?

            Bill...someone had posted a link to MikesXS and many of the XS series parts are the same as the TX parts were..not all, but many. Long as its a 341 part number its all good.

                Cylinders, starter cover, and oil pan are painted and in the oven baking to hard cure the paint. Little bit of progress at a time.

                  SLEEVES FELL OUT!!! I guess i accidentally found that if your baking the jugs and you lift the jugs off the rack, the sleeves will fall right out of the jugs. I slid them back in and sat the jugs on a flat surface to cool and hopefully when they cool the aluminum will again constrict and tighten up around them.

                          Nice work Chuck, love VHT since PJ1 is so hard to find in these parts. Mikexs is a favourite for RD stuff too. You cannot beat their price on the needle bearing swing arm conversion kits. Looking at the casting quality of your oil pan reminds me of a couple of my 1/2 cases. -- I had better ones but ended up using them because the numbers matched the frame. I posted another TX rebuild on that rambling thread you started.

                            Yeah...I saw the casting marks and thought WTF is this. Had to look twice because i thought it was cracked. What other thread is that? Restart a thread here in the others. Just open another window and copy and paste it to the others section. Would LOVE to check out what ya got going on!!!!!!!

                              Dale..I noticed that too. I have the head back in the oven as we speak and the sleeves in the freezer to contract as much as they can. I hadnt thought about crud falling into the seats for the sleeve shoulders. Its all cleaned out now though!!!

                                Dale...set the sleeves back in and was 100% sure they and the seats were clean and no debris. The tops of the sleeves DO still stick up maybe .005 or so above the leading edges..so that must be the way they are supposed to be.
