Negative on the spray can my friend. House of Kolor base/clear coat. First time using this particular clear. It's okay. PPG 2002 puts it to shame though.

You just need a little more practice. Once you get familiar with the paint you are shooting, it's light years easier using a gun than a rattle can (other than cleaning up that is).

Oooh, I was sooo looking forward to this update! Great work, Ed!

How many coats of clear have you sprayed at once? With the clear I used I could never lay more than two at a time without getting the run-offs. I did go for a cheapskate option (which was one third of a cost of a premium PPG product).

Shot four coats this time around. Started out thin and a little dry, then worked my way up to full wet coats. The heavier the coat the better it flows out, but you are at risk of runs if you hose it on too thick. I used my watches countdown timer set to 15 mins. to make sure each coat properly flashed off before going to the next. Overall, I'm happy with the way it turned out. Pin stripes on the sidecovers could have been better, but I got in a hurry so oh well.

Looks real nice, Ed. Patience is the key. Should cut and buff real well.

pre polishing, are you serious? Is it going to get even more like glass than it already is? This is turning out just beautiful. Nice work Ed.

Very nice work, Ed! One of these days I hope to set myself up with the proper (within reason) setup to do a paint job.

Can't wait to see the finished bike, your sparing nothing on her! Forgive me, I'm sure you mentioned it here (thread is up to 15 pages, wow!) but is this for yourself, someone you know or just a flip project? Nice job!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I've been sort of dragging my feet since finishing the painting stuff. Have some time coming up and will get something done soon though.

Been watching ebay for months looking for some OS pistons and rings, or a nice OE set. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the cylinder bores look suspect and there is .004" piston to wall clearance, which is getting out there. So...just bought an 810 Wiseco kit. $420 shipped didn't seem too bad, particularly when new OEM rings are $248.12 by themselves + the cost of a head gasket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321490069847

Need to find someone trustworthy to bore the thing now.
