Customer brought me this Thursday after work. She had taken it to some guy and he took it apart at his buddies garage. THEN the sorry piece of crap took the bike back to her while she was at work and left it in her driveway torn apart with a box of parts next to it.....minus the drivers footrest bracket and both pegs.

She told me do what i have to do so i dumped some chainsaw gas in the gravity bottle and I will be danged if it didnt start. Wouldnt idle but would stay with a little added throttle. Good sign so far. The mice had chewed up the paper for the air cleaner element and i have looked all over bay and they seem to be very allusive. So as youll see in the pictures, my solution is to gut the filter and use the framework and some rat wire to solder up a rigid cage and wrap it with 3/8 unifoam sheeting. Now she has a reusable for the life of the bike filter. Wash and reuse the foam or put on a new piece..her choice.

Got the carb and jets dipping right now and a new bowl gasket on the way. New rubber parts for the petcock also ordered. Still need to check the oil pump and rephase that if need be







My MacGyver rejuvenated air filter cage.....Put a heavy spot of solder at the top of the wire loop to hold the top of the end pieces inboard too.

Oh...the tank is SPOTLESS inside.

EDIT..seat is the original and no tears. Has 1040 miles on the clocks and I have every thing electrical now working.

I remember them with the two rear sprockets for street and trail.
That one looks great.

She doesnt have the big off road sprocket though. The sprockets are real hard to find and its a 70 tooth 420 pitch at that. Theres a place in California called sprocket specialists that will make copies if you send them and example and want to wait a few weeks.

The 40 to 1 chainsaw gas is a bit oily ( manual say its a 20 to 1 ratio ) but i dumped a bit into the gravity tank and we now have a running mosquito fogger. Now for the rest of the ordered parts to show up and take it for a test drive and adjust the clutch if need be. Somewhere around NOV 6th I should have all the parts in.

If it calls for 20:1 and you have 40:1 you will need to ADD some oil.

Its Matts saw gas. I am "guessing" at what it mixed at. Its not gonna run anymore on the saw gas anyway. I got a quart of 2 stroke oil for the tank. Cant hook the oil line up till the gaskets arrive though. saw gas was just to see if it fired or not.

Texted the owner telling her the bike is done. Even with my fat rear end on it I got it up to 47 MPH. She probably weighs less than half of what i do, so I expect she maybe able to get it up to the low 50s maybe.

Back in the day, my Honda ATC 250r called for 20:1 premix. I usually ran it about 40:1. I would wail on it all day without issue. My father said increase in the premix oil quality allowed this.

Whats the going rate for a bike mechanic ? Curious Chuck if you kept track of all your time and whats fair for that kinda work.

Most of the time involved was finding parts and waiting on delivery of them. I had $156.69 in parts and I charged 400 labor. i did a few things "just because they needed doing". Such as the making of the air filter cage and making a side stand bracket which was long lost. I ran 15 miles on it and its running solidly..not fast...LOL

She came and rode it down the street and came back grinning from ear to ear. She took some of my cards and she knows some folks with more vintage bikes. she asked if I would do her maintenance and stuff on the bike and i said " OH HELLZ NO"!!...Just kidding.
