Second set of wheels, including brake discs. Riding tubeless makes swapping tires back and forth a pain, and huge wide rims are great off road, but only a few decent mixed terrain tires available for riding on the road. The joy of suddenly having narrow, light wheels and tires is super fun as a change, but off road, I won't ever ride anything but fat tires."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

My son ride a lot this summer. I addition to our rides, he spent a ton of time riding around town with friends.
Last night he asked if we could fix his back wheel as it was ocassionally rubbing on the brake pad.
Holy smokes, every spoke was loose, to the point of some of the nipples being finger tight (loose).
Before he asked me he watched a few videos on how to do it. I showed him and explained in more detail and straightened it. He was hesitant to try for fear of making it worse, so I did it this time. Tightened all the loose ones, then trued the wheel. It was the best I've ever done. In the past I've tried to get it too perfect and ended up making it worse before better. I checked mine. A few loose ones there too.
After that we put the bikes in the car, drove over to, and rode around in the nearby moonlit cemetery with stones ranging from pre Revolutionary War to present day. After that we came home and went for round two in and around town.sigpic

I decided I don't like skinny tires (LoL-2.3 feels skinny these days), so I just ordered an extra set of fat wheels (80 mm) which will be receiving a set of 4" Origin8 Softcells for road rides. The 29er experiment is over."Thought he, it is a wicked world in all meridians; I'll die a pagan."

Oh well. Kind of feeling sorry for myself these days. Came off the MTB a few days go. Clipped a tree with my handlebar and got tossed into the bushes. Lucky I wasn't going fast so survived with a tore up (some stitches), dislocated and broken right thumb and a bit of rash on one knee. Biggest problem was tweaking my already bum knee from an old ski injury many years ago so I'm kind of hobbling around a bit. Knee is feeling a bit better after a few days but that's going to take a while to be 100% and the thumb splint works so good I can shift gears. Told my wife in a few days I can probably be back riding .....that didn't go well. LOL.'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM)Comment

No direct hit but definitely some abrasion that would have been the side of my head and face. We ride tons of single track so good gear is mandatory. Current lid is Giro mountain rated with the MIPS compression system. Love it ...even more now.Last edited by Sandy; 08-31-2020, 01:03 AM.'84 GS750EF (Oct 2015 BOM) '79 GS1000N (June 2007 BOM)Comment
