Oil Filter location on a Yamaha Maxim 400

    Oil Filter location on a Yamaha Maxim 400

    A friend of mine just called asking where the oil filter is located on this bike year unknown.Does anyone know ? The parts fiche just show the cover but it looks like it points straight up.

    See anything like this on the pan?? I googled OIL FILTER LOCATION YAMAHA 400 MAXIM and got several responses.

      Thanks Chuck. I googled it too and saw that picture and one on a parts fiche for an 82 that shows a one bolt system. In both cases it looks like it is on the bottom of the engine next to the drain plug. I'll pass the info on.....

          Could be an XS 400J or maybe a XJR 400?? Anyway heres some youtube videos..

                I think so. It was a friend of a friend who asked me to call him directly. I did and passed on what we think is the location. Apparently the bike is owned by a friend of his who is returning from Hong Kong after two years and he wanted to get it ready for him to ride. I did explain that an oil change might not be all that needs to be done if the bike has been sitting for two years with the old gas in it.....

                  Has to have what we call "the drill". Carbs and tank cleaned, oil change, spark verified, valves checked ( if applicable and not hydraulic lifters ), tire condition and air pressure, brake fluids changed,,etc etc. Idle time is a bike KILLER!
