88 VMAX tune up question...I'm doing a tune up on a friends 1988 Vmax. There is a valve in front of the motor that switches coolant from run mode to drain mode. The markings on the front of this valve are slightly disfigured. I assume (from the shop manual) that there is a drain off and a drain on marking but all I can see is the word "drain". I'm hoping that I can tell which way the valve is directed by whether or not the word "drain" is upright or inverted. Has anyone dealt with this?

I worked on a couple and but had to change the thermostats on both so I didn't bother with the petcock. This may help. https://www.vmaxforum.net/threads/coolant-change.12048/Originally posted by Eli69 View PostI'm doing a tune up on a friends 1988 Vmax. I've had a Venture before, very similar setup. As with any bike that age I'd be looking for a vacuum leak where the intake boot mounts onto the head, mine where all shot and despite what the folks on the Venture Riders forum told me an ordinary o-ring from the hardware store won't cure the problem, they're too thin to fill the groove.Originally posted by Eli69 View PostNext question... I identify as a man but according to the label on a box of Stauffers Baked Lasagne I'm actually a family of four

I wish I could answer your question, but I haven't had to dive into a set of VMax carbs yet. Being that it is an 88 you might have a crack in a line somewhere. Have you checked the valves yet and then carb sync? They look like a nightmare. Here is a link for a VMax forum with some links that might help you out. I downloaded the manual and it appears safe, though you have to get past a couple of supplemental manuals before you get to the meat.Originally posted by Eli69 View PostNext question...
