Valve cover hung up on cam chain guide?

I recently pulled my valve cover and adjusted the valves.
When I attempted reassembly, I noted that the valve cover appeared to be hung up on something, it would not lie flush with the cylinder head. The cover would rock back and forth almost like it was warped.

I then noticed that the plastic cam chain guide is protruding slightly higher then the cylinder head by maybe a mm or less but enough that the cover will not sit flush on the head.

I am not sure how it got this way, was it like that from the get go or did I do something, I don't know.

Anyway, I am wondering what to do about the situation. I tried pressing down on the protruding guide but it would not budge.

My biggest suggestion is that you add what model KawaYamonda you are working on.
Oh, wait, this is a Suzuki forum, so we'll go on that assumption.

OK, it won't really matter much, as the 'fix' is pretty much the same for any of them. Push harder.
The top of the guide should be flush with the head surface.

Now, either get into the habit of mentioning your bike in every post where you are asking questions about it,
or just add it to your signature, so it's there every post you make.

Wow, that was a big failure on my part.
The bike in question is a GS425.

Assuming the cover fitted properly before you did the valve adjustment, maybe you have now put it on back to front?

Tach drive gear in the cam cover is catching on exhaust the gear on the cam.
Turn the tach drive gear a bit and reseat, it should drop down when the gears aligh.
