    Engine noise got loud

Since I bought the bike three months ago the top end has always been clicky, from what I understood my valves needed some checking. I've been putting it off until I had some downtime but yesterday I noticed that the noise increased dramatically without any rhyme or reason. So, today I got at the valves to find they were mostly in spec and a few were tightened up a tiny bit. I reassembled and found the noise to be exactly the same.

Unfortunately the video doesn't quite capture the nuances of the sound, but does well enough. If it's not the valves (or maybe they were off and I didn't fix them?) what is the source of this sound?

I'd check the cam chain tensioner. Put the engine at 1-4 T with the valve cover off and remove it from the bike. A paint dot on the cam chain and cam sprocket will help you identify if the cams jump time while the tensioner is out. There is a rebuild tutorial posted by bwinger, as linked on Basscliff's website.

    Good luck

It's a problem if you don't hear them.
