The bike always ran fine but the compression went low from a cheap head gasket and carbon on the valves.
Like a bone head I removed the air box and that helped to kill it also.
I decided to restore it because it always ran so great. The handling left a bit to be desired. L !

I found the color codes on the edge of the bearings.
Getting out the micrometer to check thickness.

30 - 40,000 miles on the bike.
As has been said - seen worse.

Thanks for the photos Pete!
After careful measuring I have decided to use the existing bearings and put the engine back together with new seals and gaskets.
What are the best sealers to use on the cases, head gasket ...?
I have a factory head gasket and a full set of cheapo gaskets.

Threebond 1184 for the cases.
Nothing on gaskets. Oh, and be sure to use an OEM base gasket and all the various O-rings. Aftermarket is a crapshoot, with emphasis on crap.Ed

No probs mate, and yes 100% +1 on Ed's comment on base gasket and O rings! Genuine base gaskets are cheap, O rings are worth it.
I tried an Athena after market set but used a genuine base gasket... head gasket had to get replace at somewhere around 20K km's as it developed a weep and nearly blew while out on a ride, it had turned brittle and hard in that time. The various other gaskets have all been replaced over time also, all went brittle and hard. The valve cover gasket weeped from the time it was installed to the time it got replaced with a genuine one during the first service, and nothing would stop it. The genuine gasket didn't weep at all.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
