    Bad news oil change.1980 GS1000G

So while doing a oil change I found part of a bearing retainer wall stuck to the oil drain plug magnet. I was wondering if someone could lead me to the most obvious culprit. Bike is starting fine and had it out a couple of days before the oil change with no funny noises so guessing it hasn't blown apart yet. Won't be running it till I track this down. Just wondering if there's a good place to start. It looks like the ball bearing would be about 8 mm or 5/16 for our American friends.

    Photos?

Did you drop the oil pan and check for other parts yet? If not, I'd do it.

        Bearing retainer?
Does it look like this? If so, drop the oil pan and see if there are more pieces.
Mine came from a bearing on the transmission shaft. I had to split the case and replace the whole unit.

That's exactly it. Sorry. New to forum and haven't figured out pics yet. I did figure it was from the bearing on the transmission shaft by the size. Haven't and won't have time to pull the pan for a couple months. Drained oil again and that's the only piece to come out. Now of the local shops will take it in till the fall when riding season slows down. So I'm on hold till I get the time or a shop has the time. Thanks for the help everyone. It is greatly appreciated.

And the poor bike it came from. I don't put a lot of miles on in a year, but it sure hurts when you can't use it.
