    Gear selection

    Evening guys
    OK, possible blonde moment!
    Rebuilding 78 GS1000 engine
Selector drum in , indent plunger in , drum rotated to neutral position.
Pawl assy installed in end of selector drum , but straight away I've noticed where ever you locate the pawls and allow them to lock in the notches , the teeth on the pawl assy do not line up centrally with teeth on gear change shaft
I've had to walk away tonight as it's starting to wind me up !
    Any ideas
    Regards
    Mark

So with the teeth on the pawl assy and the gear change shaft - lined up , and the drum rotated to engage either indent plunger ( neutral position) the pawls end up halfvway between the notches in the end of the selector drum

            Thanks Agemax
I just had it- in my head that the pawls engaged with the notches , even in neutral

Hey Mar, just a suggestion. Get some JIS screwdrivers or an impact driver, they will keep you from buggering those phillips heads.... & yes, I's thinking the picture looked as I remembered it should look... Good luck.
