Looking at the 1980 GS1100E Clutch diagram, Part # 31 21215-49001 labeled "cushion". Can anyone explain what this is and where it goes? I removed my entire clutch basket and I didn't find that part anywhere as far as I know.

Looks like it goes on the oil pump gear. -
On the back side, on the center ring of the hub, there are 2 little slots (notches or detents) that go against 2 dogs on the oil pump gear. I've never known why, but only 1 of those slots has a hole for that tiny cushion. Never figured why or what it does, it doesn't seem to stick out enough to do anything. I have an after mkt. heavy duty hub that don't have the hole for a cushion. Hope somebody tells what it does or is supposed to do.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. Noise damper. Production tolerances mean that the occasional gear pair might whine. Aftermarket you wouldn't care. Bike is probably noisier than stock anyway.Comment
