    Shim kits for valves?

If I find the valve clearances require me to change shims, do I have to order those individually or is there some kit or package to purchase with various shim sizes? Hoping to not have to leave it apart while I wait for parts.

    Welcome to the forum, Darin.

They're typically ordered individually from places like Z1 Enterprises. Sometimes you can shuffle them around to get them in spec. To avoid damaging the cam lobe while you remove a shim and rotate the cam, a quarter works nicely as a temporary spacer.

Darin, welcome to the zoo. What bike do you have? I ask because not all Suzukis require shims and you don't have a signature that mentions one.

I think he is still around, but not active here much, but user Steve has a spreadsheet that helps you figure out what shims you need, based on what's in there now.
Send him an e-mail at woodin dot s at gmail dot com, be sure to mention valve adjust spreadsheet in the subject.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

There is also I believe a shim club here at resources, search for it.

Shim club seems DOA. The leader, Ray, hasn't been around for some time. Too bad. I suspect someone would pick up where he left off, if they could get the material seed shims...

There is a thread that Ray started. It’s not worth linking as he hasn’t been around for almost 2 years. Too bad. Seems like that was a good system for the shim/bucket crowd.

“….have an 82 gs650l. 28 whole miles on it so far.“

28 miles for bike ?….or just what you’ve put on?
wait till you see what shims…if any…you need. As was mentioned, you can often just move them around and only need
                        to acquire a few others.
Be careful of valve checking…..have you seen this link?

I've seen that advice multiple times and keep wondering why this spreadsheet is not on the GSR archive.
