    Clutch

    Hi all.
The clutch on my gs850g is not disengaging fully. I fitted a new cable and it is adjusted correctly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Chris

Has the bike been sitting for a while?

What kind of oil are you using?

Is your assessment due to having the bike on the center stand and seeing the rear wheel spin while bike is running in neutral or clutch lever pulled in(disengaged)?

Sorry for delay in getting back to you.
I use the bike on a regular basis. I thought it was the cable therefore I fitted the new one.

So the symptoms that gave rise to the change of cable have not fixed a problem?
I would still refer to the service manual for the correct adjustment procedure.
Adjust at perch and then at the lever adjustment above the gearbox.

its odd there's no gs850 manual on the basscliff website.
          Scribd has one at :https://www.scribd.com/doc/317041718...Service-Manual

bypass the need to login to scribd by entering the above url at:https://scribd.vdownloaders.com/

its huge and sprawling but its gs850 specific and has apparently all variants covered.

If the clutch was not used in a long time frame it's most likely sticky and needs replaced... With my 77 GS750 I tried everything from cleaning up the notches in the clutch basket to physically moving the plates around. Didn't work and I needed to replace.

You might have to adjust position of clutch lever arm on its pivot before fiddling with cable adjustments . I use the heel of my hand to push on the lever arm till I feel contact with clutch…this is a good starting spot to then use cable adjustments to get the proper “ throw” at handle.
