Output shaft seal leaking.

    Output shaft seal leaking.

    Well after 14 years of sitting, last fall I fixed her up, and rode it mildly. I never put alot of time on it until today. The output shaft seal is leaking pretty bad. Maybe its because it got good an hot finally, maybe its the the synthetic I ran after the oil change.. either way here goes.

    Can I just pull the seal out from the outside of the case, or do I have to open her up?

    Other then this its minor problems now.

          It's probably the clutch push rod seal !!! Not the output shaft
          pn 09285-06013 / check the #s that's for an 83 I think there the same

              On the 1100/1150 the output shaft is held in the case by a clip. I'd have to split the cases to get it out.

                  If it is the output shaft seal and not the clutch seal as LYNNE has referred to then this is the procedure.

                  Remove sprocket nut
                  Remove sprocket
                  Removed spacer
                  Remove small "O" ring
                  Drill seal with 1/8" drill in two places opposite each other
                  Screw in two long self tappers (a couple of threads)
                  Pull seal out using self tappers and vice grips
                  Drive in new seal with sealer on outer circumference
                  Fit new "O" ring
                  Replace spacer
                  Sprocket and
                  Nut

                  Put everything back together
                  . . . . . and ride.

                      Excellent. Thats just what I was after. The oil comes out at an idle right out from under the front sprocket cover. Im fairly certain thats the only seal in that area. I'll know once I get it up on the list. I just rebuilt the RM125. Ran it yesterday, still needs tuned. Theres no sense hurrying this since its only about 40 some degrees outside. That and no sense mixing parts up. I'll check out the pushrod seal too to verify that isnt my problem also. I'll start with the easiest to see and go from there. Thank you guys much.

                          Remove the sprocket cover and run the motor for a while to verify the leak visually.

                              Im in the process of doing that Don. I just got finished cleaning up all the crud out of there and wiping it clean so I could tell where the leak is at. So far no dice on finding the leak with just it idling. I'll have to run her for a bit down the road.
